Creating a one-stop-shop for employee device management
About the client
DreamWorks Animation deals with a vast number of digital files for each CG-animated film. The complex data structures, diverse file types, and dependencies across the development pipeline make it challenging and time-consuming for Technical Directors to make quick modifications on the fly. DreamWorks asked us to create an innovative design solution for their animation pipeline.
My Role
Our team focused on improving the efficiency and productivity of DreamWorks’ technical directors. We created a suite of tools to help them manage the ginormous volume of files they work with. I came into this project after much of the research, architecture, and UX work had been done. I put my expertise to work in cleaning up the styling and adding finishing touches to the StormCloud app. Through DLS work, cross-collaboration with other design teams, and validation with Dreamworks technical directors, we polished this product and delivered it, with much praise from the client.
My biggest regret on this project was that it took place during COVID. Our clients at Dreamworks were – in fact – a dream to work with, and invited us several times to the studio in LA. We were all pretty bummed that the work finished up before lockdown did and missed a chance to get a VIP tour of the studio.
